TM 1: Facilitate Project Implementation

The first transnational meeting of BANOFFEE partners has been held in Malta the 27 th and 28 th November. During the two days the consortium was welcomed in “The Meeting Point” in Marsa (also office of Deaf People Association Malta) to kick start the project, introduce each other better and revise the working plan. They took the chance to visit Salina Nature Park, managed by BirdLife Malta, one of the consortium partners, which will be directly involved in the outputs development and testing as it is the Nature Reserve selected in Malta for the intellectual output O4, the light conversion under O3 manual guidelines.

There were 16 official participants from 5 countries (Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Malta) and 7 associations: 3 associations representatives of the deaf community: AVSiE (Es), Deaf People Association Malta (Mt), AbileMente (It) and 4 BirdLife International representatives: SEO/Catalunya (Es), LPO (Fr), HOS (Gr), BirdLife Malta (Mt).

SM:1 Facilitate project implementation: institution of Committee for Outputs and state of works

The first steering meeting of BANOFFEE has been held online the 27 th May. It approved the list of birds created for O1 and created the Committee of expert for the coordination of work in each intellectual output.

The second steering meeting of BANOFFEE has been held online the 27 th June. All committees reported about their state of activity, the plan for the short and medium works to be completed and scheduled a roadmap of tasks and characteristics for the IO. The partners decided to postpone to September the decision about the second transnational meeting that will be held at the end of November.

BANOFFEE project includes in its workings few conferences and workshops which will be organised in different countries to present all “intellectual outputs” produced by the project and in Malta to present the “manuals” and collect feedback from the users before finalising them.
The provisional schedule of these events is here below. We encourage all the people interested in the events as long as in receiving updates on the IO produced, to register in our mailing list or to keep an eye on the website when the conference period is approaching, in order to know the exact date and place

“Dealing with the Deaf public: Manual for professionals’ training”

The conference is for the pilot group that will evaluate the draft of the “Manual for professionals’ training” (O2 intellectual product). Formed mainly by Deaf people will be the key event for disseminating the Manual but also to evaluate its approach and contents, in order to identify the improvements to be included before the final product is issued. This pilot group a part of deaf people will encourage interpreters, birds and nature tourism professionals, to participate.

The conference is for the pilot group that will evaluate the draft of the “Manual to improve accessibility in Info Centres” (O3 intellectual product). Formed mainly by Professionals, NGOs and Government Entities managing or responsible for managing Nature Reserves, will also involve the Deaf community as final recipient of the inclusivity improvements detailed in the Manual. It will be the key event for disseminating the Manual but also to evaluate feedbacks about its content, so they can be incorporated In the final version issued.

“Dealing with the Deaf people in the Nature: Birds And Nature Open for Full Fruition, Empowering Everyone (BANOFFEE)”

Type of activity: Multiplier Event (E4 - E8)​

The conference is for the deaf people, interpreters, guides and other tourism professionals to disseminate O4 intellectual output. It consist in the production of specific educational videos in French and Maltese sign languages about common or iconic bird species of the two countries and a video with the description of the biodiversity of the selected Nature Reserves in France and Malta. These Nature Reserves will also undertake a light conversion according to the “Manual to improve accessibility in Info Centres” and the results will be presented as long as the videos.
